The News Mardi Gras

It  will all happen at the Linger and Die on the opening night of the 2017 Blossom Festival, when the popular Mardi Gras event will be held to mark the official start of the festival.

Following the very popular Round the Clock Race, spectators will be treated to a variety of entertainment featuring local bands, some fun and games, like the challenging egg throw and catch competition followed by the traditional truck pull challenge

An estimated crowd of over 2000 locals and visitors enjoyed last years evening of entertainment and celebrations.

School children from Alexandra and surrounding schools entered the bike race and teams competed in the egg throwing competition.

Festival organiser Martin McPherson said the the Mardi Gras had been held at the Linger and Die area since 2013, its new home was proving to be a huge success.

Last year the public got their first chance to see the 2016 Blossom Festival princesses. The princesses were presented from the stage and joined in on the festivities.

Joining the 2016 Princess, the Festival welcomed back former Queens from previous festivals, as part of the celebration of our grand 60th Anniversary.

Fund raising for the Fireworks display was an overwhelming success with the display lasting over 10 minutes! It was described as the most spectacular display seen in this part of the world "ever''. Fireworks will be back in 2017.
