Pro-Active Thunder Sunday Drag Racing
Thunder Sunday returns in 2012 on Sunday 23th September at 11am.
About 2000 spectators gathered at the Alexandra Airport to watch the Thunder Sunday drag racing were excited by the action as they watched the top performances of the drag racers and their noisy machines.
Ninety vehicles – a mix of standard cars, through to vehicles for racing only – raced down the airport runway.
Men and their machines came not only from Otago, but also Southland and South Canterbury.
Back in 2010 Auckland drag racer John Neilan had thrilled the crowds when he set a new record for the quarter mile event of 7.8sec at 330kmh with his 3000hp Digga Dragster.
Racing started at 11am and wound down around 4pm, for the thunderous event which organizers described as “a fantastic day all round.”
The drag-racing was a fund-raiser for the Terrace Kindergarten, in association with Southern Dragways.
