Contact Grand Procession

2023 Wrap up

In 2023, Alexandra held its annual spring Festival, which included a vibrant parade that attracted crowds of people.

The procession, which has been a tradition since 1956, featured a variety of handcrafted floats that showcased the community's creativity and spirit.

The Truck Parade, celebrating the region's contractors, kicked off the event at 11:45. The parade, led by the Alexandra Pipe Band, proceeded down Centennial Avenue, captivating the audience with its colorful displays. Both competitive and non-competitive floats, along with other entries, demonstrated the residents' dedication to the festival.

Volunteers spent countless hours building and decorating the floats, reflecting the town's commitment to providing an enjoyable experience for visitors from the region and beyond. Children from local primary schools, as well as community groups, sports teams, and service groups, actively participated in the parade, adding to its success.

The 2023 procession also featured over 100 trucks, vintage cars and tractors, six pipe bands, gymnasts, marchers, clowns, stilt walkers, and the Contact Float, which showcased the winning Senior Queen and her Matron.

Looking ahead, we anticipate the colorful and creative displays that will be showcased in next year's procession.

Waste Minimisation

This community is committed to waste minimisation and is working hard to divert material from the landfill and the better use of available resources.

When designing your float, please consider the following:

Reduce – Reuse - Recycle
Reduce – Can your float be built with less stuff? The ‘less is more’ principle.
Reuse – Can your materials be stored and used again next year? Can you use pre-loved materials; there are many interesting items available at WasteBusters.
Recycle – Can you break down your float into its various components ready for recycling? So long as they are separated, recyclers will take metal, cardboard, paper and plastic.
Float builders are responsible for the cost of all rubbish taken to the Transfer Station
Rethinking the design of your float, reusing last years materials, and constructing your float in a way that can easily be undone and recycled, will help you save money and use resources more wisely.
Help support this community’s goal of minimising waste and reducing negative impacts to the environment.
